Iain Tait on his ‘wonky’ path to creativity

W+K London ECD Iain Tait sat down with Creative Review to discuss his introduction to the tech and creative industries, which he describes as “meandering at best, downright wonky at worst”.

The interview spans his brief foray into engineering, being the go-to creator of Edinburgh-centric websites and how he fulfilled his ambition of working “in the Internet”.

“I’m grateful for my mixed-up journey,” says Iain. “I didn’t really know what I loved. So I improvised. I stumbled around doing lots of different jobs on my way (I’ve tried my hand at being a bad account manager, a low-rent strategist, a disorganised producer, a cack-handed designer, and a really terrible programmer) – I learned something through each of those mistakes.”

Gillian Wearing + W+K London

This year we were honoured work with Turner Prize winning artist Gillian Wearing on a unique collaboration for her latest exhibition, Life: Gillian Wearing.

We worked with Gillian to create a five minute film, which deploys face-swapping Artificial Intelligence technology and offers a candid insight into the artist. In the film, we hear Gillian talk about herself, but the people onscreen are actors who have the artist’s facial features integrated with their own.

Gillian and W+K London ECD Iain Tait spoke with Fast Company about the collaboration, which you can read here.

The full film can be viewed as part of Gillian’s exhibition at the Cincinnati Art Museum until Dec 30 2018. Check out the trailer below.
