The electro-funkiest duo on the planet Chromeo are breaking records with their new record, Drivetime.
Touted as quite literally the world's shortest 'long player', it clocks in at only 121 seconds long, shattering the previous record by an eternity. As other artists stretch out albums to greater and greater lengths with additional tracks, extended remixes and bonus extras, Chromeo are bucking the trend by packing 55 tracks into 2 minutes. All of them killer. No time for filler. It's also physically quite wee, as you can see here:
Inspiration for this concept album came from Chromeo's desire to identify and condense the soul of their music. "People make such a big deal about the White Album because it was so long," they explain. "We just went to the essence."
Although the music is quintessential Chromeo, Drivetime sees the band explore political themes for the first time in their career. "We felt our fans were lost and needed some guidance. They needed to know when to turn, and where to turn, and what direction to turn. It's our role as entertainers to guide them." The track "Turn Left" in particular is a disco anthem that screams defiance.
You can see more in this exclusive behind-the scenes video that shows the band in the studio working on the Drivetime album.
The Drivetime album is available exclusively from the Nokia Ovi store for free download as part of the Own Voice app.
