Welcome to Optimism

new Nike work from Wieden + Kennedy Portland

And some more new work from the Wieden + Kennedy Portland mothership.

Nike’s new spot 'Human Chain' breaks today in the U.S. and celebrates the intensity,
dynamism and determination that connects athletes in all sports and
motivates them to inspiring performances.

From Lance Armstrong on his bike, to a six-year-old studying martial
arts, movement is the universal language that connects the athlete in
everyone. It’s a language of beauty, drama, tragedy and triumph.

The ad
features Oscar Pistorius, Sergio Aguero, Deron Williams, Maria
Sharapova, Mike Spinner, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, LaDainian Tomlinson
and Lance Armstrong alongside other athletes as they all connect
in one continuous chain of motion.

Soundtrack is The Hours’ “Ali In the Jungle”. Coincidentally, The Hours played a special gig at the W+K offices here in London a while back.

And this is another new Nike ad from Portland. It's called 'Nightmares never sleep' and casts basketball star Dwyane Wade as a defender's ultimate bad dream. The commercial uses horror movie techniques to convey the defender's fear of the oncoming nightmare that is D-Wade on his way to score.

Wieden + Kennedy continues to hit ‘best of decade’ charts

Welcome to Optimism is proud, delighted and a wee bit overwhelmed about the end of year/decade 'best of' lists as Wieden + Kennedy continues to pick up plaudits in the trade press roundup of the last ten years in advertising. AdWeek named WK Portland's Coca-Cola spot 'It's mine' best Superbowl ad of the last ten years.

Meanwhile, Advertising Age named WK New York's Beta 7 campaign for Sega as one of their ten best non-TV campaigns of the decade.

And Wieden + Kennedy had three entries in Ad Age's best ten TV commercials of the last ten years:
