the creative department outing
Last
Thursday saw that near-mythical thing happen: a creative department social gathering.
So rare and extraordinary is this meeting of our agency big beasts that Tony
and Kim now struggle even to agree where their department begins or ends.
Fortunately,
40 or so of the agency managed to find each other and go for steak, cocktails and
wine. Particularly lots of the latter.
Oddly,hanging
out together for an evening saw a couple of things happen. Firstly, it helped
us get to know one another better. Even
those who weren’t able to make it. This is important when we have some new
hires to the team, and we like to be a tight-knit bunch at W+K. Unfortunately Kim was in Chile shooting, so
the rumours of his attendance were met with confusion and excitement. It was soon revealed that in fact Kim was
present along with a few other who couldn’t make it in the form of cardboard
cut-outs on a stick.
Secondly,
it meant Tony D could give out a round of awards. Not much can be repeated
here, due to the creative department’s need for secrecy and decency, but there
was acknowledgment, amongst other things, of creative meeting attendance (or
lack thereof), of being a drunken nuisance, lunch ordering and flirting*.
Fun
was seemed to be had by all, and there are discussions afoot to make it even
more of a regular thing.
