Welcome to Optimism

pitch disappointment

07062006101

Regular readers will have noticed references to trips up to Leeds for new business presentations have been appearing on here for a while. It’s now been pretty widely reported that there’s been a long-running pitch going on for the Arla Foods business (Lurpak and Anchor). We heard the other day that we’d been unsuccessful on Anchor, which will stay with CHI. Gutted. It had been a long haul. And the haulage continues, as we now go into a further round to contest the Lurpak business with DDB. Damn, it’s getting harder and harder to win new business. This pitch started back in January and is unlikely to be resolved before the end of July. That’s a huge amount of time, money and effort expended for which, of course, we earn nothing unless we win. So, we’d better get on and win Lurpak!

W+K wins the World Cup!

On Sunday 4th June a number of advertising agencies took part in the Advertising World Cup at the Power League Football Centre in the city.  It was a chance for all those keen footballers within the industry to show off their skills and help raise money for the United Nations World Food Programme.

in this competition and were in Group B, along with

Germany

(Leagas Delaney), Ghana (DDB) and The Ivory Coast (CHI).  Unfortunately we only drew 2 matches and lost the other one, which saw us at the bottom of the Group B table at the end of the group matches.

However, all was not lost, the teams who finished 3rd and 4th in each group then went on to play in the ‘Plate’ Competition.  We beat Mexico (BBH) in the semi finals of this competition and ended up in the final against Portugal (WCRS).  It was a 9 goal thriller of a match and we won 6-3.

Our boys did good.  Well done Shay, Stu, Ben, Rich, Arnie, Gio and Robbie.
