Welcome to Optimism

shanghai surprises

Nic and Kevin in Shanghai:
Wednesday saw the summer party on the
roof at Wieden + Kennedy Shanghai. Brilliant time had by all – bbq, bar,
DJs, fantastic (and probably highly illegal) projections of cool W+K
logos onto opposite apartment buildings, Kel’s (Shanghai MD) birthday, a fashion show
of outfits designed and made by WK folk and a lot of drinking.

Everyone has looked after us
brilliantly – the office is so cool, and every WK-er made us feel
massively welcome, especially the amazing lovely and incredibly patient
Mehreen Ozdemir.

And here is Nic arm-wrestling the world’s shortest
woman for the prize of stealing her dog:

Sergio's pole In Sao Paolo visiting DM9 DDB, who are our local partners on the Nokia business in Brazil. We were very jealous of DM9 president Sergio Valente’s fireman’s pole. This runs between Sergio’s floor (indicated not by a number but with an ‘S’ next to the appropriate button in the lift) and the floor where creatives and planners sit.  Sergio can run out of his office, slide down the pole and loudly exhort everyone to win more Cannes Lions. And in the picture above, you can see him arriving at the bottom of the pole, about to do just that.
The approach seems to work as DM9 has been Cannes Agency of the Year three times.
Why haven’t we got a fireman’s pole?
