Wonga – Revisited

According to The Sun this morning – a 'new' craze is sweeping the internet.  Not so….

The Sun 8th December 2009

8 years ago, our very own ECD Tony D and then head of planning, Russell Davies launched the 'Wonga' exhibition at Westbourne Studios in Notting Hill, in conjunction with the fantastic photographer Lesley Davies-Evans.

At the time, the march of the Euro was prevalent in everybody's minds – and got Tony and Russell thinking about money – about what it actually is, rather than what it can do.  They dug out their unused foreign currency, studied the characterful strangers peering out at them and discovered a whole host of more familiar faces.  And so the exhibition was born…. a lovely example  of how just because something is 'the root of all evil', doesn't mean you can't have fun with it!

Digital Davidson

A few of us went to the opening of the Decode: Digital Design Sensations exhibition at the V&A last night. The exhibition features 'the latest developments in digital and interactive design, from small screen based graphics to large-scale installations'. It was a superb intro into digital art and very playful.

Tony Davidson was entranced by an eye that follows your gaze and only blinks when you blink. In typical Tony style, he instigated a staring competition. He lost.

Another interesting piece was a 'mirror' that forms a self portrait by scanning your face. The portrait is printed on a light reactive surface that slowly fades away over time.
