Welcome to Optimism

Just desserts for James Ramsden?

 IMG_0278

W+K have been working with up and coming chef, foodie and writer James Ramsden for some time now but we’ve never actually tasted his cooking. Last night Alex and Nicole got the chance to see if James can actually deliver the goods at pop-up restaurant The Hart and Fuggle off Brick Lane. James put on a wonderful Moroccan themed spread including spiced flatbread with moreish baba ganoush and a superb chestnut and chorizo with saffron soup. Mains saw a colourful platter of lamb tagine, pomegranate couscous and some sweetly spiced roast carrots.

The crescendo to the meal came after mains, sometime around the completion of a second glass of world class Hermitage red wine, in the form of dessert: a fabulously moist Tunisian orange cake with rose syrup served with whipped cream and dried rose petals. Sublime. We were then served fresh mint tea on beautiful English fine china with some yummy home-made Rocky Road.

Back to the wine…The Hart  and Fuggle is a great place to meet people as you’re seated at shared tables laid with beautiful spring blooms. We met the lovely Emily and her friends. Emily is a sommelier at the world class River Café and also runs her own blog Women Know Your Wine.  This meant we were fed a steady stream of five star reds from the wine tasting session Emily had just attended. Thanks Emily. Emily is also a doppelganger for our very own Helen Foulder. Not only do they look the same but they share a love of red wine. Spooky!

A big thank you to James and proprietors and chefs Georgina Fuggle and Alice Hart who are donating half of all profits to Centrepoint. Good luck with the rest of your run. The Hart and Fuggle serves its last meal on Valentine's Day. Places are all booked up so email  [email protected] for any last minute cancellations. You never know.

W+K Nominated For A MEGA

The 2010 MediaGuardian Innovation Awards shortlist has just been announced, and we've been nominated in the Creative category for the brand identity we created for the 2009 / 2010 onedotzero film festival http://wklondon.typepad.com/welcome_to_optimism/2009/09/wk-installation-a-highlight.html

Guardian
The 'Megas' is in its third year, and 'recognises those at the pinnacle of achievement in media innovation'.  Steve Busfield, Head of Media and Technology at Guardian News and Media said 'we hope the new emphasis on digital creativity will act as a call to arms to those using traditional media rather than a barrier to entry.  However, we recognise that for many digital initiatives, innovation and success are synonymous.  For this reason, we have not been shy in encouraging the very best digital work to step into the spotlight'.

The competition includes:

Hopper Invasion – Sony Ericsson & Dare.  The Hopper Invasion enabled users to inflate spacehoppers by the power of Twitter and the #pumpt tag, extending a campaign idea online and beyond.  245,000 hoppers were created by more than 17,000 people, pumping the hoppers in the warehouse, live, by the power of Twitter.

House of Cards – Shelter & Leo Burnett.  The House of Cards campaign was created with no budget, but raised awareness and money for Shelter.  As well as a traditional media campaign, the concept was extended to an exhibition of leading British artists, a talent competition and an auction.

Last month, our work for onedotzero was nominated for a Brit Design Award – also to be announced next month.  http://wklondon.typepad.com/welcome_to_optimism/2010/01/onedotzero-identity-nominated-for-the-design-museums-design-of-the-year.html

You can see the onedotzero interactive installation in action at the Design Museum along with all the other shortlisted works for the Brit Design Awards from 17th February.
