Not only is Russell Davies a strategic guru – former Head of Planning at Wieden + Kennedy and ex-Global Strategy Director at Nike – he’s also a fine drummer. Renaissance man or what? Here he is behind the kit for the first time in a while at a gig that Neil (of W+K) and a few mates did at Simon Clemmow of CHI’s 55th birthday party on Saturday. Russ has put some pics on his site here.
Our performance was about as tight and professional as you might expect of, say, Babyshambles on a bad night but Russ did a fine job stepping in at the last moment for our usual drummer Rich, who couldn’t make it. We were warm-up act for the Stevie Cook Soul Band, led by Gerry Moira of Euro RSCG. Now they were impressively tight. But they didn’t do any Ramones numbers.
It was a brilliant party that even our performance and the England-Portugal result couldn’t spoil. Happy birthday, Simon.
