Welcome to Optimism

Sir Harrison Birtwistle kicks off W+Ked 2019

This morning, we welcomed Sir Harrison Birtwistle, one of this country’s greatest living composers, into the agency to kick off our latest series of W+Ked speakers

In the 1960s, Harrison shocked the classical world when debuting his opera Punch and Judy and both he and his music have stayed as uncompromising and distinctive ever since.

The composer spoke on his music, influences and staying on the cutting edge of his profession and finished with a thrilling live performance of a piece called ‘Pulse Sampler’, performed by oboist Melinda Maxwell and percussionist David Hockings.

A huge thanks to Harrison, Melinda and David for sharing their knowledge and talents and to the W+Ked team for a properly inspiring start to this year’s speaker programme.

W+K Pride

Our Hanbury Street roof terrace was treated to a rainbow-inspired makeover this week as we celebrated LGBT Pride ahead of London’s weekend festivities.

Cabaret performer Topsie Redfern put on her very best day drag and treated us to a performance which paid tribute to gay icons including Freddie Mercury, Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer. She also enlisted the talents of our very own Lara Wahab, who spectacularly hogged the microphone in a rousing rendition of I Dreamed a Dream from Les Mis. Guests were kept topped up with plenty of booze, candyfloss and Brick Lane’s rainbow Bagels.

Massive thanks go to the W+K Culture Club for organising.

Wishing everyone a spectacular LGBT Pride from London.
