Welcome to Optimism

product designs

Above we see Wieden + Kennedy’s Matt Gooden introducing students from Bucks College who we briefed to develop ideas for Wieden + Kennedy products.

When we won the ‘Grandy’ advertising award, which carries a cash prize, we thought it would be nice if we could invest some of the money in a scheme that allowed people with creative ideas to make them happen. At the meeting on Friday they presented the prototypes for their products.

Next stage for us is to choose which ones we actually put into production.

Hopefully, we’ll make enough money from selling the products to enable us to fund a similar scheme next year. That’s the plan, anyway.

ode to unsung heroes

Last night was Sean Thompson’s leaving do. Sean is the writer behind some of our best known recent work, including ‘Grrr’ and ‘Impossible Dream’ for Honda and the Aiwa campaign that we spoofed in his leaving card (above). He’s off to be Creative Director on Adidas at 180 in Amsterdam. His leaving speech was made in the form of a poetic tribute to the unsung heroes of wieden + kennedy. It was quite long, but finished up with the immortal lines:

Now fix that lav, Gav And start to un-bung.

Three cheers to the Heroes who go unsung.

Goodnight, God bless and, while there’s room,

Thanks to each and every one of you, especially Chris Groom.

Cheers, Sean. Thanks for all your work and best of luck at 180
