A big W+K welcome to Jo Borton, who joins us today from BBH as project manager on the Guardian, amongst other stuff.

Back to work after the customary Wieden+ Kennedy festive break at our private island in the Caribbean, where we had a well-earned rest, had ice-cold beers brought to us, frolicked on the beach and  recharged our batteries, ready for another exhausting year of toil at the coal face of the ad mines.

Atmosphere a little subdued today. Some people – agency and clients – not back yet from an extended holiday break, and some of those who are back are maybe still a little fragile after new year celebrations. It’s already dark outside at 4.20 and, just to enhance any feeling of Seasonal Affective Disorder, we have Portishead playing on the stereo.

Maybe we should try to boost new year energy levels tomorrow by kicking off with The Beach Boys.
