change the world 9 to 5

500_9to5

Change the World 9 to 5 is a new book from our friends at We Are What We Do that picks up where the bestselling book Change the World for a Fiver left off; with fifty simple everyday actions which we can all do during our working day to change the world. Here’s what they say:

"It’s a simple concept. Change the small things. Encourage your workmates to do likewise. Sit back. Swivel. And watch as not only the quality of office life improves but also the planet’s prospects, the bottom line and – in turn – your boss’s disposition.

Actions in Change the World 9 to 5 include: Remember people’s names; Challenge your business about its ‘lights on at night policy’; Smile when you answer the phone; Ring the IT help desk just to see how they are; Speak rather than email; Play bullshit bingo; Leave work on time at least once a week."

Clearly, everyone at W+K is particularly keen on that last one.

Black nosed weasel

Mr_honda

In the October issue of Car magazine there’s an interesting profile of Soichiro Honda, founder of the Honda Motor Company and the inspiration behind much of our Power of Dreams campaign for Honda UK.

"’When you run out of dreams there will be no more meaning to life,’ Soichiro once said, sounding a bit like an automotive Yoda. ‘One must keep chasing one’s dream’."

He was a genuinely fascinating man – inventor, enthusiast, iconoclast and visionary. And that spirit still walks the corridors of Honda today, which is what makes them such a joy to work with. If you’re at all interested in him, and he’s an interesting man, it’s worth having a look at the article.

BTW, ‘black nosed weasel’ was the nickname given Soichiro by his blacksmith father, because he spent so much time with his dad in the smithy.
