Adrenalin (part 2)

Bikes

Atom

Wieden + Kennedy’s Honda team recently visited the Swindon factory, where an engineer proudly stated "you can’t break a Honda engine". So yesterday we put that to the test. Various team members went to Warwickshire to drive Honda cars round a race track, ride bikes on and off road, play around with boats and for the lucky few, get a ride in an Aerial Atom (above) – which is basically four wheels, a rather big Honda engine, all housed in an aluminium frame (and nothing else) which takes you to 60secs faster than anything else on the road. Nice.

Results of the day – Alex thinks he’s Jenson Button.

Tapper just had a big grin on his face all day.

Mark and Richard drove rather fast on the Fireblades. Simon finally managed to avoid driving into the bushes on his scooter. And we all got our feet very, very muddy.

The day was also filmed for a case study for Unilever, who were interested to see how W+K engages with the Honda brand. Pretty well I’d say.

Scream if you wanna go faster

Yesterday, the Honda team spent the day up in Warwickshire, at a ‘Honda Adrenalin’ day.

Essentially, we got to ride, drive and [insert whatever the boat equivalent is] all the Honda products:

So – we got to push the boat out – metaphorically and literally in some cases, with fast cars, road bikes, off-road bikes, scooters, ATVs, big boats and less big boats.  And practice our skid control on a surface that’s 3 times skiddier than black ice.  Lots of embracing failure there.

It was a fantastic day, and an experience like that really makes you feel what Honda is all about.  Racing is in their blood, and their commitment to and passion for this comes at you at 120mph on a day like that.

Here’s Matt Coombe, Honda’s Marketing Communications Manager, taking a cigarette break from the general 120mph-ness:

It was inspiring, exhilarating and fun.  Though not so fun for our shoes:
