Tesco Bank translates finance into the language of bagels

Tesco Bank. A bank that thinks like a supermarket? That's right. The one where every little helps.

We've been working with our lovely clients based in Scotland on our first campaign with them, which launched on Wednesday.

Here we dramatise the very fact that Tesco Bank applies supermarket values to financial services. The print ads and TV spot use buns and bagels – all, of course, available at Tesco stores – to talk about Tesco Bank's Clubcard Credit Card offer.

As you'll see from the work, there are lots of bagels. In fact, we know pretty much everything there is to know about the holey breaded roll. But the humble bun serves as the perfect tool to talk about Tesco Bank's values in what we think is an engaging way.

Here is the print.

And now you can check out the TV.

the best day of Henry Hardman’s week

Henry

Henry Hardman (above) is here on work experience. Here's what he's been up to.

Today has been my favorite day of the week. Today I got into work earlier than the expected time of ten, and helped
myself to tea and toast. This is because I needed a full stomach for a hard day
at work. The first thing I did when I got to work was carry on and finish the
questions I had been set the day before, these questions included ‘what my
favorite advert of all time was’ and ‘what object do you like most in
reception.’ Some of the questions I really enjoyed answering because I love
some of the adverts that W+K make and produce.

Then later on in the day I found out that I
was going to be going on a shoot for Tesco. This was very exciting because I
wanted to know in greater detail how Tesco produce some of their great adverts.

Roary and I had to take our lunch early
today because I was going on the shoot. When we took lunch I had a ‘meal deal’
from Tesco because I like to eat some of their great quality foods at good
prices, (much cheaper and better quality than Morrison’s or other companies'). I
had charcoal-grilled chicken pasta, a bag of lightly salted crisps and a Coca-Cola with my name printed on the bottle. Roary had a KFC from opposite
Liverpool Street station.

It was finally time to go on to the shoot. This I was very excited about and couldn’t wait to go. I got the taxi out the
front of W+K London and it took me straight to my destination. At first I had
a little trouble getting in to the building; this is because I didn’t know what
floor I was going to be going to, so ended up pressing every button till I found
the correct floor. When I had finally found the correct floor a kind man
greeted me and showed me up to the floor.

He showed me into the studio and showed me
all around it. I was intrigued: I had never been in to a studio before and this
lived up to my expectations. The room was filled with cameras and different
sets for different styles of shooting. They had two huge cameras, one for
shooting from above and one for shooting from the sides. Both with a click of a
button get sent to two giant computers and it's shown on the screens in such high
quality, and you can zoom in and see every single, tiny detail.

When I was at the shoot I saw a potato and
buns, both bought from Tesco get photographed. This will be really exciting for me to see the items used and see them on
television. I got to touch the potato that has been used (the famous potato).

All in all this day has been the best day
at work experience so far, I really enjoyed it and felt I had learnt lots from
it. I gained lots of experience and it has inspired me to maybe one day go down
the route of camera work or into advertising. I also enjoyed watching a food
specialist chop food in a way that presented it perfectly for the camera; he
made sure every detail of the food was OK. At the end of all this W+K paid for
a taxi to take me straight to my father's work in Tottenham Court Road and then
we went to a restaurant and quickly went to the Nike store where I purchased
myself some new Nike Air Max 90’S edition, these are now my new favorite pair
of trainers and I wear them everywhere I can.
