Welcome to Optimism

the days after we left

Oldbldg1

Oldbldg2

7 years in our old building in Great Titchfield with whiffy toilets, a broken lift, faulty heating, flooded floors and bits falling off everything all over the place. We move out and look what happens: the landlord finally decides to refurbish. Typical. But we don’t miss the old dump. We used to joke (semi seriously) that we’d never won a pitch in that office because the state of the building led the clients to asume that we couldn’t be a proper agency. This impression wasn’t helped by the fact that the first thing you saw when you walked in the door was a big pair of Y-fronts sellotaped to the receptionist’s desk. We’re much more professional now. No pants in reception at all.

Thanks to reader ‘olde spitalfieldsr’ for directing us to this pic of the site where our office now stands, on the corner of Hanbury Street and Wilkes Street. It’s a terrible shame that there aren’t more remaining examples of the beautiful old houses on Wilkes Street. But, looking on the bright side, the big hole in this picture is now home to Wieden + Kennedy.

The pic comes from English Heritage.

A view south of junction with Hanbury Street. The end of the terrace has been demolished.
