On Saturday, Wayne Rooney made history by scoring his 250th goal for Manchester United, becoming the all-time top scorer for the club. His stunning free-kick moved him ahead of Sir Bobby Charlton to break a record that had lasted for 44 years. No mean feat.

As the ball hit the back of the net, Nike unveiled a gigantic mesh banner covering the entire front facade of Hotel Football besides Old Trafford, to celebrate the record-breaking moment.

The artwork visualised the iconic ‘Rooooney’ chant, spelling out the Nike athlete’s name with 250 ‘o’s – one for every goal he’d scored.

2016 was the year of the filter bubble. Twitter and Instagram were no longer showing posts in chronological order. Our Facebook News Feed filtered out everything except the things it wanted us to read. But it isn’t just social media platforms that use filters.
