Welcome to Optimism

Bud Light lands in the UK

America’s number one beer brand is coming to Britain, marking its biggest ever brand campaign in the UK. W+K London’s first work for Bud Light goes live today! The high-impact OOH campaign will reflect the brand’s knowing, light-hearted personality.

Popping up in some of the UK’s most iconic locations, from the London IMAX to the Birmingham Media Eyes, the campaign brings the brand’s unique take on lightness to anything and everything that needs it, through youthful, uncomplicated, and playful messages that nod to the brand’s American heritage.

With product already on supermarket shelves, a national online and offline distribution campaign is underway to encourage both initial and repeat purchasing. Bud Light will also be on offer on draught across the nation’s pubs, bars and restaurants.

Have a great week. Have some Bud Light.

The many new faces of W+K London

We have had many new joiners to W+K London in the past few months, it’s time to share them with you…

Ram Dhaliwal, IT

Ram has joined our IT team after 4 years at Hogarth. Ram‘s a bit of a motorcycle enthusiast – sport bikes to be precise. His friends call him Rambo, but he actually has a huge fear of snakes. He helps out at a local charity for the homeless in his spare time, and he knows a thing or two about IT as well.

Vicki Sinclair, Account Manager

Vicki has joined us as the new account manager on Arla. Before W+K, Vicki was working way over in West Kensington at Leo Burnett. She’s lived in London for about 6 years but has never really ventured east, so she’s keen to get any recommendations for places worth exploring in the area: anything involving baking, life drawing or the occasional jigsaw would be a bonus.

Tom Bender & Tom Corcoran, Creatives

The two Toms are our new creative duo who both have the same name(!) Before joining W+K, they both worked at Droga 5. Not only were they both baptised in honour of St. Thomas, but they’re both equally talented and nice guys. Legend has it that one day, on a return journey from IKEA, Tom’s car broke down and he then decided to assemble the bed he’d just bought and spend the night there. Bold move.  We are not sure which Tom it was or if it is really true. Misery and glory are equally shared when you are a team…

Rob Hancock, Account Manager

Rob is the new Account Manager on Three. He’s previously at digital agency Lean Mean Fighting Machine, he knows all about all things digital. In his spare time he enjoys long distance running, trying (and failing) to speak Spanish, and boring people down the pub about politics.
Paula Bloodworth, Planning Director
Happy news in the planning department. Aussie super brain Paula Bloodworth has landed in London, fresh from W+K Shanghai, via Ogilvy NYC and Leo Burnett in New Zealand. She is taking on planning director duties on Nike. Paula is a competitive sports loving (basketball) closet artist (painting).
Kate Baker, Creative
Kate had been freelancing at W+K for a while and we managed to convince her to become permanent. She is an art director extraordinaire, and she’s been absolutely amazing so we’re thrilled she’s enough of a masochist to join us full time.

Lauren Ivory, Account Manager

Lauren is a new account manager on Sainsbury’s. Lauren was previously working at AKQA London, followed by a three year adventure in the U.S setting up the Portland office. Now she’s decided to return to her motherland. Her very first job was on the deli at Sainsbury’s so we’re expecting her to sell in anything we give her given she’s legit. She performs stand up pretty regularly which we need to see in action.

Simon Lotze & Miguel Nunes, Creatives

Simon and Miguel joined us from Ogilvy. Miguel grows and collects mesembs (Mesembryanthemaceae): 1782 of the 1900 different species grow exclusively in remote, arid regions of Southern Africa. We’ll soon need to arrange a Korean food tour for Simon as he says he’s never eaten Korean food before, ever, not even accidentally.

Paul Wentworth, New Business Director

Paul comes to us from Grey London. He’s been there leading the new business charge for the last four years and has had some great success with high profile wins. He supports Chelsea, he’s fountain of knowledge on the team.

Mel Draisey, Marketing Executive

Mel has joined us as the new marketing executive. Mel first freelanced at W+K over 10 years ago, and before returning to W+K she was at Crispin Porter, amongst other places. She’s in a few bands (our MD Neil even brought one of her albums) and also spends time making music in hospitals.

Peigh Asante, Creative

After the 7 months at the Kennedys last year, Peigh joined us as a new creative in January. Peigh is a self-described “London boy” who spent weekends “playing disco and funk to tipsy restaurant-goers in Soho” before earning his spot in the Kennedys line-up. He also set up and runs a swim lesson club called Swim Dem Crew, which saw him “barking orders to swimmers and non-swimmers alike.”

Rachel Clancy, Creative

Rachel also joined us from the Kennedys. She’s originally from Limerick City, where she studied Visual Communication and Graphic Design at Limerick School of Art and Design. She’s worked various creative jobs over the years, including a stint overseas in Boston.
