Welcome to Optimism

And the Pencil for most original thank you gift goes to…

…M.A. Creative
Advertising, University College Falmouth.

I went down to
Falmouth at the end of last year to do a workshop with the course of 2008/09. I
was appalled at teatime because they had no tea bags in their building when I
was offered a cuppa. So on my return back to the office I sent them an emergency tea and biscuits ration pack
(plus some other desk junk I wanted rid of).

Then today a big, old
parcel arrived for Darren and I covered in stencilled crabs! Inside the big
box was a very large, orange buoy, the sort of thing that you’d find attached to
the Titanic I’d imagine. Or alternatively very useful for city life e.g. creating space on the tube.

A big thank you to
Josie, Pete, Toby, Chris, Liane, Stef, Trupesh, Nina, Carl, James, Amy, Jason,
Josef, Molly, Aisha, Daniel, Alicia, Michaela, Konstantin, Ed, Murtaza, Bryan,
Aurora, Will, Jonathan, Gaetan, Freddie and Mark.

And of course Chris,
Rob and Alice.

A super special
reminder of the time I spent with the ad students by the sea. Best thank you
present we’ve ever been sent guys, good job!

Very occasionally, something comes along and makes us go
"bastard! we wish we'd done that!"  But that happened, all over the
office on Friday in the face of the amazing music of Kutiman

Picture 1

Not only is the music lovely (kind of dubby hip hip), but it's been
made in a deliciously open and inspiring way. Kutiman got all of the
source material – from beats, to basslines, from vocals to flutes –
from videos people have posted on YouTube.  Some of them were intended
to be instructional, some were people showing their new bit of musical
kit, some seem to be quite private musings.  Whatever, it all went into
the Kutiman blender, and out popped an album (with ready made videos,
or course).

A proper labour of love. It's worth checking out one tune in
particular. The youtube video of Just a Lady links back to all the
component musical videos that make it up.

Pretty inspiring stuff. Back to work to up our game…
