W+K partners with onedotzero for interactive arts In 2011

Last night, at the launch of the 2011 onedotzero film festival on the Southbank, we announced, in partnership with onedotzero, a new partnership for 2011.

We will work together to seek out and champion innovation and excellence for interactive and digital artwork created by artists around the world.

Following recent cuts imposed by the coalition government on the Arts Council of almost 30%, both companies believe there is a need to protect the art world, and in particular, the interactive art world, where possible.

Shane Walter, Creative Director, onedotzero said, ‘At a time when funding for the arts is being cut it is more important than ever to broker new and innovative forms of partnership between the business and arts sectors and to find ways to keep art popular, healthy and relevant.  We believe that the interactive arts are an incredibly relevant way to engage people in broader discussions about art, culture and technology and to think seriously about the kind of future we want to build’.

Discussions are under way to launch a high profile, annual award in 2011 – The Interactive Arts Transvision Award.  The idea is to celebrate the power of technology and the human imagination to create new types of art, new categories of beauty and new ways of seeing.  These plans are currently in development – and both companies are calling for partners to help make the idea a reality.

W+K Interactive Creative Director Andy Cameron said, ‘The Interactive Arts Transvision Award is about championing new forms of engagement, new opportunities to connect, and new ways for audience and artist to relate to each other.  It builds on contemporary cultures of interactivity, gaming, peer to peer sharing, physical computing, mobile geo-location – and plunders all of them to create radically innovative and critically resonatn art works.  We believe that this vibrant contemporary arts movement deserves to be celebrated with its own high profile global award based out of London’.

This collaboration is the culmination of an ongoing relationship between W+K and onedotzero.  Last year we were commissioned to create their brand identity – inspired by the theme of convergence and collaboration.

All Ears Storytelling – an inspiring new story evening organised by some friends of ours – is on 17th November 2010 at The Hub Kings Cross.

All Ears is a new evening for intuitive Londoners who are looking for something different.  Three to four guests each month will be selected for their experience, knowledge and commitment, and given centre stage for 10-15 minutes each. The evening becomes an open forum where the audience can put their burning questions to each storyteller.

Speakers for 17th November include:

Kevin Maguire and Sejal Parekh tell the story of how Kevin's family has built The Good Life Orphanage in Kenya and how they've changed the lives of 50 (and counting) young children, taking them from the unloved streets into a welcoming home where they can develop and grow.

Deborah Frances-White is a stand up comic, screenwriter and Director at The Spontaneity Shop. Her story will be an entertaining and insightful look at how to have unbelievable charisma and use it to your advantage.

Ben Matthews is the founder of Bright One, the first volunteer-run communications agency for the third sector, which he runs in his spare time. At just 25 years old, Ben's story of working with incredible charitable organisations is inspiring to say the least.

Justin Miles is preparing to attempt the longest unsupported polar journey in history. However, 11 years ago Justin was involved in a near fatal car accident that left him unable to walk or talk.

All Ears will be held at The Hub King's Cross – a unique business centre and inspired space for meeting, working, innovating, learning and connecting.  The Hub is a minute’s walk from King's Cross St Pancras stations and close to many bus routes.

Tickets are £12 each in advance (plus booking fee).  A small allocation will be available on the door at £15.  Doors open at 7pm and stories begin at 7.30pm.  A range of soft and alcoholic drinks will be available as well as delicious light meals.
