tokyo.ten
The object of desire pictured above is Tokyo.ten, the latest release from Wieden + Kennedy Tokyo LAB. It’s a hybrid package of book + DVD + blog. The title represents the label’s tenth release and the kanji character for ‘point’ (pronounced ‘ten’). A ‘point’ can be a moment in time, a location, or a reason for doing something.
Tokyo.ten is a compilation of some of the best work of the LAB's first five years and presents new work from all its global collaborators. The book features over 250 pages of visual remix, new artwork and essays. The DVD contains 20 pieces, 70 minutes of video, including new videos from Takagi Masakatsu and Jemapur.
You can see more about this release at www.wktokyolab.com/ten, a blog on which people were able to track the work-in-progress as it was being created.
Tokyo.ten expanded into live events with an opening party, an exhibition at Tokyo’s Claska Hotel and a night at the Liquid Room in Ebisu featuring live performances by five LAB artists. You can see the event at http://wktokyo.jp/blog/?p=717
W+K Tokyo LAB is a label that releases audio/visual experiments that could only be created in Tokyo. Here are a couple of examples of WK Tokyo LAB music videos, 'Digital Breath' by Afra and 'Wamono' by Hifana:
