W+K Unveils 'Meet
London' For Nokia
08.02.2008 | New Work
W+K has launched 'Meet London' for Nokia - a unique exhibition that brings together the creative talent of four high profile Londoners representing film, music, sport and art to produce a series of one-off, intimate portraits that capture London in 2008. Dizzee Rascal, Darren Bent, Jaime Winstone and Rankin have taken part in this unique portrait of the capital.
The exhibition celebrates the opening of Nokia’s new flagship store on Regent Street, Central London, which officially opens today. The portraits will be displayed in store from 8 February 2008. They will also be available to view on Nokia’s Meet London online gallery – www.meet-your-city.com.
With Meet London, Nokia aims to create the biggest ever portrait of London, mapping the city through the connections of its inhabitants rather than by its streets and landmarks. As a social networking initiative, Londoners are encouraged to introduce a friend, via a mobile phone portrait made up of text and images, to the city. Once introduced, the chosen friend then introduces their connection, and so on, creating a chain of unique portraits.
Spearheaded by rap lyricist Dizzee Rascal, actress Jaime Winstone, footballer Darren Bent, and celebrity photographer Rankin, the four portrait chains are representative of the different social networks and influences which inform each of the artists and their work. Each portrait chain shows the artists’ powerful connection with London, through the relationships that shape their communities.
