Each year we try to inspire, excite and challenge ourselves through a topic chosen by the agency and hosted by W+Ked, our internal training programme.
This year our focus is on “How to Tell Great Stories” where we are looking at storytelling in all it’s guises. We invite in a selection of expert speakers to bring this theme to life in their own inimitable way.
We endeavour to source experts from outside the industry and from a variety of different fields. Their talks expose us to diverse specialisms and encourage us to think differently and to engage in lively discussion and debate around the agency.
So far we have welcomed John Yorke, former Head of Channel Four Drama and Controller of BBC Drama Production, to speak about his theories on how all stories work. David McCandless, author of Information is Beautiful, talked to us about his insights on data visualisation to surface stories. And Cara Ellison, Video Game Narrative Designer, spoke to us about how storytelling in gaming is like theatre in the round.
We also run ‘School Trips’ to related external events in the area and design participatory workshops around the theme open to anyone in the agency.
